Music Updates

Blog category:

The music department always looks forward to the holiday season because there is such great music! In December, we'll welcome a lot of wonderful guest artists, as well as musicians from our own congregation, as we celebrate Advent and Solstice.

On December 6, our choir will sing the carol It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, arranged by UCBR member by David Lindenfeld. On December 13, we'll enjoy hearing a brass trio playing carols for the church services, and the choir will be joined by some percussionists for a fun and upbeat Nigerian carol.

Our Winter Solstice service will be held on December 22, and Daniel Leonard will return with his singing bowls to help us celebrate the shortest day of the year. Bring your drums along to the Solstice service, and join in our drumming circle afterward.

Christmas Eve will be another special service, with a string trio joining us again. The choir will sing Franz Biebl's Ave Maria, and the HeartVoice Trio will sing a piece from Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols. And of course, there will be lots of carol-singing for everyone.

The New Orleans Gay Men's Chorus will sing in our sanctuary again this year for their annual holiday concert on December 19 at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased online for $18 at, or for $20 at the door.

Our resident composer David Lindenfeld will also have a piece performed by the Baton Rouge Symphony and Chorus, at the annual Home for the Holidays concerts. The First Noel, which has been performed twice at UCBR, will be on the program on December 4 at 7:30pm, and December 6 at 3pm. Tickets available at
