December 2018 Music Notes

December is a month full of music at UCBR.

On December 9, the choir will sing an old English carol called Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day. We will be joined by a percussionist for this fun carol full of mixed meters. According to Wikipedia, the archaic language of the text hints at origins in the Medieval mystery play, which focused on the representation of Bible stories as tableaux with accompanying songs. The verses progress through the story of Jesus told in his own voice.

On December 16, the choir returns to sing Brightest and Best, a less common carol. The text was written in 1811, and the tune is from The Southern Harmony, a collection of shape-note hymns from the 1830s. We'll be joined by a violinist for this spirited anthem.

On December 30, Ross Hoppe will join us again for the annual Requiem service.
