And another year is coming to an end, but not until we have experienced 2012 Holiday Season.   Our month of celebration includes some beautiful music for our Sunday services and special events.

On December 2, Baroque ensemble, Michael Taylor, recorder; Leah Hartman, harpsichord, Ila Stoltzfus, viola da gamba, return to provide music for this first Sunday of Advent.

The Adult Choir sings two anthems for Sunday December 9; a setting of O Magnum Mysterium composed by our own church member David Lindenfeld, and setting of Sure on this Shining Night by Morton Lauridsen.  Both pieces have a quiet strength about them.  A guest string ensemble from LSU brings additional music to this service.

On December 16, the choir sings an anthem by Felix Mendelssohn, Behold a Star from Jacob Shining.  Leah Hartman and Ila Stoltzfus will play movements from a Mozart four-hand piano sonata.

On December 23, with the Impromptu Pageant we will hear the children’s choir, directed by Cathy McManus.  They will be rehearsing each Sunday in December after church for about 30 minutes in the choir room.

December 30 is our annual Requiem service to commemorate the deaths of well- known figures in the entertainment, political, academic, and literary world.  The HeartVoice Trio returns to sing and Ross Hoppe and his band will provide instrumental music for this service.

The New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus returns on December 15 at 7:30 to our sanctuary for a concert celebrating the season and celebrating 30 years as a musical organization.  Because our church has the venue for their Baton Rouge concerts, they invited our choir to sing in this concert.   We will sing two anthems from our repertoire and will join them for the finale.

Our Christmas Eve service includes our choir, the HeartVoice Trio, and instrumentalists Thomas Oswald, violin; Melanie Lançon, flute; and Michael Dawkins, piano.
