Assistant Minister's Column

Blog category:

This month marks two years that I have served as your assistant minister, and it seemed a good time to reflect. Let me start by saying that it has been an absolute honor to serve you. I could not have asked for a more receptive, spiritually mature, or fun place to minister. This church has been a true joy.

This is not to say all of the work has been easy. We have hosted more than a dozen memorial services. (It might be double that, but I didn’t have the emotional stamina to keep counting) I’ve visited almost every hospital in the city. I’ve been with some of you as you’ve gotten amazing news and others as you heard life altering news.

Both Steve and I have been on the radio, the church has been in the paper at least 10 times. I’ve been with members as you lobbied the state legislature, marched on the capital, advocated for a more just and loving Baton Rouge.

The most humbling part of all of this is that I know I’ve only scratched the surface of the life and potential of this church. There are so many rich stories and conversations to be had. There is so much that this church will do to continue transforming this city into a beacon of compassion and justice. I am happy, honored and excited for our continued journey together.
